Recommended Tips to Verify "NEWS"

We support and encourage voters to be as informed as possible on issues and candidates before placing their vote. In an effort to help voters determine the reliability of news sources, we recommend following these steps suggested by Eric Scott as printed in The Chicago Tribune:

1) If all you see is a headline and the opening paragraph without a dateline or source, that should be your first red flag.

2) If the headline indicates that the story is of significance, check to see if other news sources are reporting the story as well. A true major news story is unlikely to only be available on a single web page or source.

3) Check to see who, if anyone, is being quoted. Although some fake news stories make up names and quotes, a quick internet search to check the name and organization being quoted will let you know if the quote is coming from a legitimate source.
